The same is true with kids. Don't misunderstand me ... from my side of the equation, having 3 kids was great. It was just that whenever playtime rolled around, amongst themselves 3 was always a crowd with my children. And which one was the "crowd" changed on practically a play-by-play basis on any given day. 2 of the kids would start playing this game or that, and one that was inevitably a game for multiples of 2. Hence ... the third wheel made a frequent appearance in our house ... a maddening, pull-my-hair-out-of-my-head appearance, I might add! It's a wonder I have any hair left on my head! But all that changed with the arrival of our 4th child in November, 2006 (has it really been that long?). You might be tempted to think that adding a girl amongst a group of 3 boys might not result in much of a change in status quo. But if you have read previous blogs here at florida-wild-life, you will believe me when I say that M'Pris (as she is affectionately known) holds her own well amongst this sometimes daunting hierarchy of boys that surrounds her. She completes our second multiple of 2 rather well I think all who know us would agree. If you had asked me years ago if I thought 4 children was the perfect family I would probably have said "more like 2 is the perfect family." I really never envisioned, as a kid or young adult that I would have 4 children. Yet, here I am ... perfectly content with my 4 great kids! And being honest ... it's what I know. I grew up in the company of 4 siblings (and you guess correctly ... I am number 4 among the 5). Also woven in and out of the fabric of my life was the frequent company of my 4 cousins, children of my dad's brother, as well as a host of extended family members. I think it's a fairly universal thing to seek out that with which you are familiar, that which makes you comfortable and happy with life. And for me, what makes me comfortable and happy is the number 4 ... personified in my 4 children!
So, don't you agree? 4 is a fabulous number.
